One year old?!?! NO WAY!!! It's hard to believe that our niece is already the big ONE. We celebrated with family and friends of Katie and Luke this Saturday at Nanny and Papa's house. Katie had been planning a birthday luau and did an awesome job bringing it all together. From the decorations to the cake to the food....everything was just adorable! Of course my trusty camera was around my neck all afternoon capturing some priceless moments from Carmen's big day........
Hallie and I went over mid-afternoon to help cook and decorate. Well, ok, maybe one of us went over to help....the other one went over to PLAY.....
We surprised Carmen with her new Anywhere Chair from Pottery Barn. Notice the silly airplane above her name....yep, that would be my mistake for not paying attention when I shop online. Sheesh!
The girls (and the cat) enjoyed their time romping around in Carmen's new ball pit and tunnel from Nanny and Papa....
"So cuz, now that's you're one, we need to start getting into trouble together."
Nanny, Katie, Kylie and I worked at the speed of light and magically whipped the house into a luau paradise!

The backyard was a paradise for kiddos with two pools, a palm tree and beach ball sprinkler and a slip n slide.....
Miss sassy pants was sure to shade herself from the hot Hawaiian sun....
Bear explored every last inch of the yard it seemed....
Nanny gave Hal a little lesson in slip n sliding which had everyone laughing....

Hal was staying cool by jumping from pool to pool....
Carmen desperately wanted in on the pool action....

Bowen showed all the kiddos how to slide like a pro....
Everyone chowed down on party food and watched the baby of the hour eat her big birthday dinner....
Hallie wanted little to do with eating (big shocker) because she had lots and lots of playing outside to do....
Carmen and I practiced blowing kisses while she munched on the last of her dinner....
The little fishies made their way inside once they heard it was time for CAKE!!!

We all sang as baby girl smiled with delight....after all, she knew she was about to eat that delicious looking pile of cake in front of her.....
It was hilarious watching her grab handfuls of frosting and squeeze it with her fingers. She ate a big chunk of the cake and wasn't a bit shy about it. The girl knows what's good.....
And everyone waited patiently. Well, kind of....
"Got that piece of cake for me yet?!"
Carmen opened lots of fun gifts and even got a cow from her mommy and daddy.....
The girls finished off the afternoon with a play session with Gracen.....
Poor, poor Gracen and the torture he tolerates!

It was a luau to remember! Life just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter with each passing day watching these two girls grow up together. Cousins and best friends. Carmen is already "talking" and walking...and before we know it we'll be celebrating her 2nd birthday! Time flies when you're having fun!
Happy 1st birthday sweet niece!!!!!!! We love you!!!!!!
