A Day Fit for a Three-Year-Old

Everyone said that I wouldn't know what hit me once you turned three.

Well something hit me. I'm still kind of dizzy and just flying by the seat of my pants ever since.

Which explains why I'm just now writing about your birthday day. Better late than never my dear. Here's how you spent your extra special day on July 27th, 2013......

We kicked things off the night of the 26th because your mother just couldn't wait to give you this.....

Looks like a simple little princess castle, right? So simple that it took me over an hour to put together. Worth it for sure. You couldn't take your eyes off of it.....

Riley decided we should set up the rest of your gifts in the living room so that you would spot them first thing in the morning when you woke up. Your babies were ready and waiting for you in their high chair and pack n play....

And these bad boys were spread throughout your room waiting for you to wake up....

I waited with anticipation for you to wake up that morning. By some small miracle you slept in and came running into our bed around 8:45 to curl up with me. I should've known right then and there that something was off. I rolled over to see a very sleepy girl with a sad look on your face. My mind immediately wondered why you weren't jumping up and down screaming about the balloons and baby items in the living room. WHAT ON EARTH? WHO WAS THIS CHILD LYING NEXT TO ME???

A child who felt yucky. That's who. Poor thing didn't care about anything besides curling up on the couch.

But not quite yucky enough to pass up on birthday doughnuts. You managed to hop in the car and make a breakfast run with me. You requested "two sprinkler donuts and pink milk".....

Fit for a princess

Before I became sad enough to cry you finally perked up enough to check out your sea of balloons and the new baby high chair. You went from sickly baby to baby momma in a matter of minutes....

"Mommas don't have time to be sick...."

You perked up even more after a shower and some time spent picking out the perfect birthday outfit. You selected this pretty number from Nanny......

Why so dolled up? You had some shopping to do. Ya see, you had some gift cards to spend and needed to do it in perfect birthday fashion. We couldn't leave the house without changing baby's diaper first and getting her ready in her carseat.....

Gracen supervised

It wouldn't be a birthday (or any day for that matter) without a photo shoot outside on our way to the car. The difference is that you were EXTRA excited to smile for these.....

Five minutes later.....

Yucky is back.

You still looked a bit off when we pulled up to Walmart but you had a date with the toy aisle so the untrained eye would've had no idea that you felt icky. You made some tough decisions that morning. Hello Kitty light spinner or Tinkerbell flashlight?????

"Dis is tough"

It wouldn't be a trip to the store without a ride with Mickey in the golfcart....

While we were out shopping I surprised you by letting you pick out a birthday cake. "I get anudder birfday cake?!?!" Back home the three of us had a lunch together and ended it by cutting into the delicious cake. Don't let this sassy face fool you....you were thrilled to be the first to dig in....

"Are you sure about this?"

"Do I get a cake tomorrow too?"

We were cat-sitting Nanny and Papa's cat that weekend so he was heavily involved in most of the birthday goings on that day. He was downright thrilled let me tell ya....

After some playtime with your princess castle and singing lullabies to your babies, you were ready for some zzzzz's and put yourself down for a nap for over THREE hours. You woke up feeling seemingly wonderful and shortly after you crawled out of bed Carmen and Katie stopped by with a huge bag of sweet school clothes and a giant card.....

My dear, you looked like such a big girl "reading" the card....

The four of us girls pulled the cake back out and did our best to make it disappear.....

Carmen played with you in the water tunnel out back and burnt off some energy while us moms chatted on the porch. The day had flown by so quickly and I realized that the pool was about to close and I owed this birthday girl a swim and a ride on the train......

My most favorite three-year-old!

"It's my birthday, I can drool if I want to"

We did just that. The two of us too several rides on the choo choo train at the park and did about an hour of swimming. And by swimming I mean eating two popsicles.

Baby girl, I can honestly say that your third birthday was one of the happiest days of my life. Why? Well the best answer I can come up with is this: you are getting old enough to understand more about life and your ability to express your happiness is astounding and leaves my heart a little bigger everyday. Simply put....I watched you more intently that day....I spent the entire day focusing on what a gift you are to this life....and I was able to see so much more happiness in you than I'd ever seen before. That right there made it one of the happiest days ever.

I'd say you had quite the birthday. Passed out on the chair. Threw up everything you'd eaten that day around 8:30 that night. Party. Animal.-------->

HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY MY LOVE.
