2nd Annual Costumes & Cocktails

One look at the picture above and it's obvious that we had an incredibly successful costume party this year. What began as a random idea last year from Riley has now turned into an overwhelming passion of mine. This year I started preparing way in advance which meant that I had accumulated an entire room full of party decorations and supplies. I'm not kidding. Riley sat in his chair one night at the beginning of the week (yes, I started decorating five days in advance....and yes, it took that long) and watched  rolled his eyes as I lugged out sack after sack of party stuff. I logged way too many hours turning the house into a haunted house but in the end I was giddy about how everything turned out.....

Lil Red had an exciting evening at a sleepover with Nanny and Papa. She packed her bag by 9:00 am that morning after I shared the news with her that she was leaving....

"Don't worry bout me, I'm gonna have more fun than you!"

I had some priceless help from Rachelle and my sister in getting things ready for the partay. Bailey came to town early on Friday and we did some last minute shopping for Riley's costume, tried on our costumes and finished up the drinks and food. Oh and she snuck in some sweet playtime with Hal gal...

*******READY TO PARTY!!!!!*******

The party kicked off at our house around 7:30 and we were ready just in time with a spread of goodies....

Sausage wontons, buffalo chicken dip, queso and chips, chipotle meatballs, caramel apples, mummy dogs, pumpkin dip, pumpkin whoopie pies, dirt pudding, candy corn fudge and the list goes on.....

Our amazingly dressed guests began to arrive right at 7:30 and I was ecstatic to answer the door several times not knowing what would be behind it. And sometimes not even being able to recognize who was standing in front of me. Now that's an awesome costume when you're unrecognizable. Frankenstein and his bride fooled me with their winning costume as well as the camo clad duo from Duck Dynasty. After everyone had showed up we started the town wide scavenger hunt and everyone scattered with their teams. Cari and Tom showed up in this awesome couples costume right after everyone had driven off....

Wondering what my lovely husband was dressed as? I played along and helped him come up with this offensive "redneck OU fan" getup.....

So why did we forego the couples costume this year? Well, simply put, it was like pulling teeth just getting him to put this outfit on five minutes before the party started so you can see how difficult it was to try to choose a costume together. It wasn't happenin'. I'm thinking if I start giving him options now for 2013 maybe we will have better luck next year!

We sat back and relaxed while the pics began rolling in from the hunters out and about at each of the scavenger stops. They made stops at Walmart where they took a picture with a cashier, McDonalds where they picked up one french fry in a bag, a bridge where they went to sleep, a pond, the carwash and the high school principal's parking spot.......

Dara's group took a slight detour to take this hilarious picture....

And the winning group is (drumroll please).....

Repeat winner! The Rogers, Harringtons and Williams'

Shelley's team snatched a fry from the floor in McDonald's while other groups purchased a whole order of fries...

Scavenger hunt success! Now it was time to EAT!!!!
