Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep...

I have a funny story to share that I really don't want to forget. But before I tell it I've got to share a bit of background.....

.....lately we've been quizzing Hallie on some very important words. Actually, maybe you could call them the MOST important words that she will ever learn.....God and Jesus. She has caught on quicker than we had expected and we get quite a thrill out of asking her where God is and seeing her smile and respond by pointing up to the sky and saying "Gah." We are still working on Jesus...at this point it sounds sort of like "heehu." Yep, definitely need to keep working on that one. ;) We've been teaching her the association between God and praying and trying to help her understand the importance of "thanking God." So now anytime we ask Hallie to pray she will bow her head and put her hands together and 75% of the time will say "nink new Gah." In Hallie terms that means "thank you God." Probably the cutest phrase I've ever heard out a child's mouth. And dont' get me started on how incredibly precious her version of thank you is. Nink new? Really? Too much cuteness!

So with all of this "nink new"ing and "pay"ing we've been adding in a nighttime prayer on our way to bed. I usually carry her like a sack of potatoes while Riley holds her accessories (cup and blanket...which she refers to as her "mink"). So tonight as our sleepy trio made our way down the hallway Riley started a prayer and I quickly joined in:

"Now I lay me down to sleep....I pray the Lord my soul to keep....if I should...................."

We sort of paused and looked at eachother not wanting to finish that line. The word "die" seemed so morbid for a kiddo. Hmmm. So we started over.

"Now I lay me down to sleep...I pray the Lord my soul to keep....if I should....."

Still no good replacement word. Hmmmm????

 BINGO!!!

"....if I should CRY before I wake.....I pray the Lord fill my cup in the middle of the night and change my diaper."

Yep. That's sounds about right. Lil red didn't seem to mind our ad lib.

Tonight all I have to say is this....nink new Gah for my husband and baby girl.
