It's football time in OKLAHOMA!!!!!!!!
Saturday morning was just like any other Saturday morning. The "rooster" crowed at 7:30, we ate breakfast, went for a run and watched GAMEDAY. Ok, maybe it was a little different. Football had arrived! Lol, let's put it this way. I tried to watch GAMEDAY but wasn't too successful as I was trying my darnedest to get on the road before 10:00. After all, I was a little giddy about my plans for Saturday. I made my way to my friend Laura's house in Edmond after two unsuccessful attempts at leaving town....first I forgot my favorite sunglasses followed by my camera card. I kissed my babies goodbye and found myself in Edmond around 1:30. We didn't waste any time getting the afternoon started and headed for a little pampering. Pedicures were the perfect way to start football Saturday with one of my best friends. Twenty pretty toes later we were refreshed and ready to cheer on our team. We made our way into the land of crimson and cream around 3:30 and met Bailey and Spencer. It was my sister's first gameday experience (as well as Spencer's, but that's kind of a given considering they are a house divided like Riley and I) and we wanted to make sure she had a great time. We parked close to The Mont so that it wouldn't be far to walk since it was scorching hot outside. I had expected a long wait....but not a 90 minute wait. We happily hiked down to campus corner and found our way into burrito heaven at Chipotle. No skin off my back....I think I'd choose Chipotle over a swirl at The Mont anyday. Once we cooled off and ate we made our way to Louie's to find a spot at the bar. We were in search of the perfect margarita and they never disappoint us.
We posted up at Louie's for about an hour and headed out to join the sea of crimson headed toward the stadium. We had to make one last stop to cool off though.....
So. Hot.
The two lovebirds sat in the section next to us and I hear that they both had a great night....now if only we can keep the conversion process going....Spencer should be a Sooner by Christmas time. Hahaha!
GAME TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just love that moment of excitement and anticipation when the pregame video starts and the crowd comes to their feet and you know pretty soon you are about to see some action. Love, love love it!!!
There was a moment of silence before the game for Austin. It was pretty strange not watching for him on the field this year and texting Whit when he would make a big play. You can almost feel the extra emotion that the players are playing with. #8 for #12 in 2012....
#12..Always in our hearts
What were my favorite people back home doing? Oh ya know, just a bit of brainwashing......
Ornery written all over her ;)
Riley was less than thrilled to find out that his game was not being televised. I felt sort of bad sitting in the stands knowing that he was home very disappointed that he couldn't watch his pokes play. BUT in my defense....I tried for a month straight to talk him into going and the boy "didn't want to drive back that late from Stillwater." Next time I'm driving him there myself so that he will go! Lol! Despite having to listen to it on the radio and get ESPN updates, he and Hal had a great evening full of lots of smiles. I hear they spent some time on the patio sharing a cheeseburger that Riley grilled while she ran around burning some energy in her pjs. :)
While he put Hal to bed, I was busy cheering my team on up until the beginning of the fourth when we realized we were exhausted and wanted to get a jump on the traffic. I must say, this goes against everything I stand for. My usual rule goes a little something like this: a devoted fan stays for the entire game no matter the score. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! That's funny, Ashley. Here's my new rule: sleep deprived moms who are excited about getting lots of sleep can leave the game whenever they want. We met up with Bay and Spence and walked to the cars together, bid them farewell and headed back to Edmond. It was such a beautful night outside and the traffic really wasn't bad at all. We got back to Laura's around 11:30 and had plans to go bed. Yeah, sure! Instead we ended up baking cookie dough she had stored in her fridge, watching you tube videos and going through old, ridiculous facebook photo albums from grad school. After laughing so much that my face was hurting, I realized that it was 2 A.M!!! I cannot even remember the last time I voluntarily stayed up that late. But it was worth it! Lots of laughs! We woke up bright and early and put on our Sunday best (shorts and t-shirts) and headed for brunch at Cafe 501. We finally got to actually catch up on the past few months. I WILL NOT WAIT THAT LONG AGAIN TO SEE LAURA RAUH! There, I said it right there! More gameday fun to be had this season I'm sure. Soon little miss can be joining me in the stands....that is if Riley and I don't rip her arms off while fighting over who's taking her where on gameday. She's got a tough choice ahead of her....orange or red? Bullet or Boomer & Sooner? Stillwater or Norman?
